Sample question and detailed solution
If 3x + 7 = 22, what is the value of 2x?
Show answer and explanation
Answer: 10
Subtract 7 from both sides: 3x = 15. Divide by 3 to obtain x = 5. The question asks for 2x, not x, so the answer is 2 × 5 = 10. Always check which expression you need to report.
